ISO 9001:2008

Why ISO?

Amongst purchasers of legal services, larger organisations around the world - in both the private and public sectors - increasingly look for quality assured suppliers. ISO 9001:2008 is recognised worldwide as an independently audited generic quality management standard. Some of your clients may see it as more credible than Lexcel.

Quality management helps you get big ticket work and protects your business from exposure to both strategic and operational risk.

For most solicitors in England and Wales, Lexcel is the obvious choice. But ISO may be more beneficial for others.

ISO benefits

ISO 9001:2008 meets many law firms' quality management requirements. It is a more robust and better defined standard than Lexcel, but can be harder for lawyers to understand. The great benefit is that ISO is internationally recognised by virtually everyone needing international legal services and therefore provides assurance of reasonable quality in their delivery.

For those who want more there is QMS 4 LAW®, which can be used as a basis for meeting not only the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 but also the demands of Lexcel.

Choosing an ISO consultant

Before you consider engaging a consultant, ask these four questions:

  1. Do they understand the legal profession, its markets, risks, culture and values?

Our answer: We have been deeply involved in helping solicitors for over ten years (including scores of quality management projects).

  2. Do they have ISO expertise?

Our answer: We will provide a certified ISO 9001:2008 Lead Auditor.

  3. Do they understand the complexities of running a business and introducing change?

Our answer: We will provide one of the UK's elite Chartered Directors with a degree in management of change.

  4. Are they quality managed themselves?

Our answer: We are ISO 9001:2008 certified.

Systems are not everything. As CPD training providers, we can train your managers and staff to work in and maintain a quality managed environment. Training needs vary from practice to practice, but can include topics like quality management familiarisation, team management and leadership, how to conduct appraisals, management accounts, web authoring and advanced Microsoft® Word.

You can use our unique combination of knowledge, skills and experience to help create a tailored quality management system that gives you internationally recognised ISO certification and, at the same time, provides the very special risk and quality management tools that meet your needs as a law firm.
